The Supreme Court on Thursday fixed the next hearing in the Babri Masji-Ram Janmabhoomi dispute for March 14. Some documents and translations are yet to be filed before the apex court.
The matter is listed for hearing at 2 p.m. on Thursday before the bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra, Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice S. Abdul Nazeer.
Ravi Shankar also said that he had been receiving "positive response" on the matter from several quarters since his visit to Ayodhya last month.
The question now is under whose pressure did Kapil Sibal tell the Supreme Court that he wanted the hearing to be deferred till 2019?
In a retort to PM Narendra Modi, senior lawyer Kapil SIbal asked him to check facts before saying something in public.
Iqbal Ansari, the son of the late Hashim Ansari who was the first litigant in the case, too said that he had no objection to Kapil Sibal's arguments.
Haji Mehboob from the Sunni Waqf Board, the petitioner in the case, had earlier said that the board has nothing to do with Sibal’s statement even though he is representing them in the matter.
Kapil Sibal's request in SC comes on the eve of polling in Gujarat, where the party is trying to prove Rahul's identity as a devout "janeu" wearing Hindu and a devotee of Lord Shiva.
A day ahead of the 25th anniversary of the unfortunate event, the Supreme Court commenced the final hearings in the long-standing BabriMasjid-Ram Janmabhoomi title dispute.
Amit Shah accused the Congress of having "double standards" on the contentious issue and said the BJP on the other hand wanted an end to the matter as soon as possible.
