There was intense exchange of words between the bench and a senior advocate representing a Muslim party on the first day of Supreme Court in the politically-sensitive case of Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute. A five-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi is hearing the Ayodhya land dispute. Hearing in the case now enters Day 2.
The listing of the matter for January could prolong the hearing in the case for a few months -- by when the country would be in election mode due to general elections due in April-May 2019.
The matter would be heard by a bench of Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and KM Joseph.
