An avalanche has hit Lugnak La region in Sikkim. As per initial reports, a patrolling cum snow clearance party of 17-18 soldiers came under the avalanche. An army officer and a soldier lost their lives while others were rescued after an intense search operation.
Two persons were reported missing while as many rescued from the debris in a snow avalanche in Jammu and Kashmir's Ganderbal district on Thursday, officials said.

The two avalanches hit Gurez sector of Bandipora and Karnah sector of Kupwara. The army has deployed rescue teams and search parties for the rescue operation. Army helicopters have also been deployed to find the missing Bravehearts.
The avalanche had hit the Northern Glacier at around 3.30 pm where the altitude is around 18,000 feet and above.
Five persons were trapped under the snow, prompting authorities to launch a search and rescue operation.

According to a PTI report, the avalanche hit the security forces near Shipkala on Kinnaur-Tibet border in HP's Kinnaur district.
According to IANS, two people were rescued alive on Friday from a police post that was buried under an avalanche in Jawahar Tunnel area of Jammu-Srinagar highway.

The avalanche hit the north portal of Jawahar Tunnel on the Qazigund side.
Most of the prominent tourist towns like Shimla, Narkanda, Kufri, Manali and Dalhousie, located in mid-hills, may also witness snowfall.
Initially, four people aboard a snow clearance machine were trapped under the avalanche that struck on the Pahalgam-Aru road, the officials said.
All 10 people travelling in the truck went missing after the avalanche hit their vehicle. Three bodies have been recovered so far while seven are still missing.
Police sources said the avalanche hit an Army post around 4 a.m. along the Line of Control (LoC).
The deadly snowstorm buried the climbers at the base camp at an altitude of 3,500 metres near the south face of Mount Dhaulagiri in western Nepal on Friday evening.
"Bodies of three persons who went missing on February 24 after they were hit by an avalanche at Guchibal Behak in Kupwara district were recovered today by the joint rescue team of police, SDRF and army," a police spokesman said.
Four others were rescued alive from the resort and taken to a local hospital for treatment, a police spokesman said.
