Auto-Taxi strike: Major auto and taxi driver organisations in Delhi-NCR have announced a strike on August 22 and 23, which will impact auto and taxi services. As a result, there may be a significant increase in passenger traffic on the metro during this period.
The committee will also include members of civil society including representatives from Resident Welfare Associations (RWA), commuters, and students.
Although the impact of the strike was minimized on Tuesday with autorickshaws and yellow-black taxis resuming services, app-based cabs remained off the roads as several people faced difficulties due to the non-availability of rides and surge pricing.
The unions have refused to call of their strike despite an announcement by the Delhi government to form a committee to consider fare revision in a time-bound manner.
The chief minister said a joint committee of representatives of the government and the unions would discuss nitty-gritty of the welfare board and schemes to be rolled out for drivers and owners within seven days.
The state transport department has given its nod to civic transport undertaking BEST to reduce its minimum fare to Rs 5, a move aimed at improving ridership on short routes which are also served by autorickshaw.
