"We have been collaborating closely with the interim government to strengthen the capabilities of their law enforcement and security services in addressing this challenge," Kirby stated during a news conference on Thursday.
The Hindu boy identified as Utsav Mondal was reportedly hacked to death by an enraged mob in a police station for allegedly making "objectionable comments" about Prophet Muhammad. This came as Bangladesh's interim government chief Muhammad Yunus said attacks on Hindus were "exaggerated".
Yunus described the attacks as primarily political rather than communal and questioned how India is "propagating" them. He stated, "These attacks are politically motivated, not communal. Yet, India is heavily publicising these incidents".
This marks the first conversation between PM Modi and Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh's interim government, after the recent unrest that led to Sheikh Hasina's ouster. The Indian PM had earlier expressed concern over rise in attacks on Bangladeshi Hindus since Hasina's departure.

Bangladesh is currently preparing for the formation of an interim government after violent protests over job quotas escalated into an anti-government unrest, compelling Sheikh Hasina to resign and flee. Former PM Khaleda Zia has been freed and Yunus was chosen as the head of the interim government.
