With the resignation, the Congress' strength in the 40-member house has come down to 30, while that of opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) stands at 6. Four seats are vacant.
Mizoram is a state in Northeast India, with Aizawl as its capital city. Within the northeast region, it is the southernmost landlocked state, sharing borders with three of the Seven Sister States, namely Tripura, Assam and Manipur.
The notification for the first phase will be issued on October 16, while the last date for nominations would be October 23.
"Polls should be conducted using ballot papers instead of EVMs as that will restore the credibility of the electoral process among the people like in the past. It is absolutely necessary for protecting the democratic values," state Congress in-charge
