27-year-old Arpinder, who won a gold in the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia, was dropped from the TOPS core group while the likes of Neeraj Chopra, Tejinder Pal Singh Toor and Hima Das were retained after a "performance review".
No Indian has ever won a medal in the Continental Cup which was known as the IAAF World Cup before 2010.
As a result of these path-breaking performances, the country remained on course to better its previous edition's haul and tallied 54 medals -- 11 gold, 20 silver, and 23 bronze.
Arpinder Singh covered a distance of 16.77 to seal his gold medal. This is the first medal in 48 years for India in the sport of Triple Jump at the Asian Games.
