The young Indian wrestler Antim Panghal suffered an early elimination at the Paris Olympics 2024 after losing in the opening round in the women's 53kg category on Wednesday. She also missed out on a repechage after her opponent failed to reach the final.
Antim Panghal, the prodigious Indian wrestler, has had pretty eventful last two years where she not only rose up the ranks in the sport in the country but also made a name for herself across various junior and senior championships but a maiden Olympics will be the biggest stage she will be playing.
Indian Olympic medallist Yogeshwar Dutt felt that the restlessness in Indian wrestling in the last 15 to 18 months has severely impacted the Indian contingent's preparations for the Paris Olympics. However, the London bronze medallist was hopeful of at least two medals from six-player contingent.
India's men's hockey team and over 80 individual athletes have already secured qualification for the Paris Olympics Games 2024 starting on July 26. The veteran table tennis player Sharath Kamal and two-time Olympics medalist PV Sindhu will be India's flag bearers at the 33rd Summer Olympics.
