The pollution level had dipped marginally this morning with air quality index of 394 but by evening the pollution again dropped from 'very poor' category to 'severe' level and an AQI of 403 was recorded.

As the Air Quality Index has reached the 'very poor' quality mark, this means that there are high chances of people breathing this air to suffer from respiratory illnesses on prolonged exposure.
The sudden drop in temperature, triggered by snowfall and rain in the northern states, has enveloped Delhi in a thick cover of smog.

The environment ministry's decision comes after a review meeting with 41 teams of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) deployed in Delhi, Ghaziabad, Noida, Gurgaon and Faridabad, which found the compliance rate of the agencies concerned in following the directives was "very poor".

According to the latest Air Quality Index (AQI) data, major pollutants PM 2.5 is at 214 (poor) and PM 10 at 255 (poor) in Lodhi Road area.
