A Delhi court on Friday allowed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to question the alleged middlemen in the AgustaWestland deal, Christian Michel, in connection with the CBI case relating to the kickbacks allegedly involved.
Christian Michel, the alleged middleman who is an accused in AgustaWestland chopper scam in has applied for bail in a Delhi court. He is seeking bail in cases filed against him by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED). The court said that it will hear the matter and has asked for a response from CBI and ED by August 19.
The court has been hearing the anticipatory bail application filed by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath's nephew Ratul Puri in connection with the AgustaWestland scam.
The about Rs 3,600 crore deal to purchase AgustaWestland choppers for the VVIPs was scrapped by India over allegations of corruption and kick backs being paid in the deal.
Special Judge Arvind Kumar refused to grant the relief to Gupta whose judicial custody expires on Saturday and an order is yet to be passed on it.
"An amount of around 70 million euros was paid through two middlemen," ED told the court.
The names of these leaders and journalists are, however, not as accused in the chargesheet filed before a city court.

Michel is among the three alleged middlemen being probed in the case by the ED and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The others are Guido Haschke and Carlo Gerosa.
Michel, extradited from Dubai, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on December 22 last year.
Rajeev Saxena was deported to India from Dubai on January 30 night.
The ED had summoned Rajiv Saxena, a resident of Palm Jumeirah in Dubai, multiple times in the case and had arrested his wife Shivani Saxena from the Chennai airport in 2017. She is now out on bail.
Michel, who was extradited from Dubai, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on December 22 last year.
The UK had requested consular access to Michel, the alleged middleman in the Rs 3,600-crore VVIP Chopper case.

Christian Michel, who was extradited from Dubai, was arrested by the ED on December 22.
Michel was extradited to India from Dubai on December 5 and was produced in the Patiala Court on the same day.
Michel was under arrest in Dubai since last year, and it goes to the credit of the government and CBI, which made painstaking efforts to extradite him.
The operation was coordinated by interim CBI Director M Nageswar Rao and a team of the agency’s officers led by Joint Director Sai Manohar.
