On June 17, the three chiefs of Indian Defence services hailed the decision of the Central government to approve the Agnipath Scheme, a recruitment process for Indian youth to serve in the Armed Forces.
The new recruitment scheme Agnipath was announced on June 14 by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. Under this scheme, the youth will be recruited for 4 years and they will be called Agniveer.
Calling the short-term recruitment policy "anti-youth and anti-national", Congress said it was "bulldozed through without discussion".
Hooda said that the Agnipath scheme will weaken the defence forces and has disappointed youths who aspire to join the forces.

The scheme, which envisages a four-year term for 75 percent of recruits, was an outcome of a long period of consultation within the three services and the Ministry of Defence besides deliberation among several wings of the government.
Agniveers will be inducted in two batches through 83 recruitment rallies between August and November in different parts of India. Training of 25,000 Agniveers will begin in December, and for the remaining 15,000, training will begin in February, sources said.
In a recent few days, the country has witnessed violent protests over the Agnipath Scheme.
A fresh petition was filed in the Supreme Court on Monday, seeking a direction to the Centre for reconsideration of the Agnipath scheme.
