The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the policy-making body for the Income Tax Department, last week extended the deadline for this linkage to March 31 next year.
The deadlines for linking of bank accounts and mobile numbers with Aadhaar are December 31, 2017 and February 6, 2018 respectively.
As per the board, the proposed system would help in transfer of funds on the same day to beneficiaries, availability of the facility of Aadhaar enabled transfer of funds and reduction in bank charges for transaction.
As many as 500 missing children have been traced over the last few months through Aadhaar, the CEO of UIDAI, Ajay Bhushan Pandey, said on Friday.
