HP Envy x360 14 review: Build and design

If you travel frequently, then you'll love the HP Envy x360 14. HP has designed this laptop to be very lightweight, making it easy to carry around. With its 360-degree rotation feature, you can effortlessly switch between laptop and tablet mode. The rounded corners make it easy to handle, and the hinge operates smoothly for converting the laptop into a tablet. Even though it has a convertible design, using it as a tablet may feel heavy. It would have been better if HP had made the keyboard detachable.

HP Envy x360 14 review: Display and speakers

The HP Envy x360 14 features a 2K display with a resolution of 2880 x 1800 pixels. It boasts an OLED panel that delivers vibrant colours and a high refresh rate of 120Hz. Thanks to the OLED panel, dark colours are displayed exceptionally well, and the panel is designed to offer good visibility from any angle. Additionally, the display supports a peak brightness of up to 500 nits in HDR.

While the display performs well overall, there are areas where it could be improved. For instance, a higher refresh rate, such as 140Hz, and greater brightness could enhance the usability of the display in bright environments. The HP Envy x360 14 comes with dual speakers by Poly Studio. After testing the speakers, I found the sound quality to be average, with a lack of bass impact. Overall, the sound quality is just okay and not particularly impressive.

HP Envy x360 14 review: Keyboard and trackpad

This laptop has a decent keyboard. The keys are well-spaced and have good depth, making them comfortable to use. Additionally, the keyboard is backlit and offers three levels of brightness. The trackpad is spacious, allowing for easy navigation and supporting gesture-based inputs. Overall, it is accurate and easy to use.

HP Envy x360 14 review: Performance and battery

The HP Envy x360 14's processor easily handles multitasking, and it comes with Microsoft Office pre-installed. It is equipped with 16GB LPDDR5-6400 MHz RAM for fast processing and has 512GB of storage. This laptop is great for web browsing, document editing, media consumption, and entertainment. It performs these tasks smoothly, but when dealing with heavier tasks, the fans start running faster, indicating some throttling.

The battery life is impressive, providing 6-7 hours of backup on a single full charge. If you are just browsing the web or working on documents, you can even get up to 8 hours of battery backup. This makes it a great option for frequent travelers.

HP Envy x360 14 review: Verdict

The Envy x360 14 is an excellent laptop that offers a good balance of features with its 360-degree convertible design. Despite some drawbacks such as the display refresh rate, lack of a detachable keyboard, and relatively low brightness level, it remains a compelling option. If you're in the market for a lightweight, compact, and well-designed laptop, the Envy x360 14 is worth considering.
