YouTube now allows users to request removal of AI videos that uses their face, voice

YouTube has updated its privacy policy recently. The newly rolled out changes allow users to request the removal of AI-generated. Under the new privacy violation policy, users can flag videos that use AI to create or alter content that looks or sounds like the user.

YouTube uses several factors to determine whether it will remove content. These factors include whether the content is altered or synthetic (and if it's disclosed as such) if the person in the content is easily identifiable or realistic, and whether the content could be considered a parody or satire. Another factor is whether the video includes a public figure or well-known individual engaging in sensitive behaviour, such as crime, violence, or endorsing a product or political candidate.

The new policy on YouTube addresses privacy violations rather than misleading content. The company now requires that most claims be made by the affected party. There are exceptions for minors, individuals without computer access, or deceased individuals. Upon receiving a complaint, YouTube will give the alleged violator 48 hours to take action. If the content is removed within this time frame, the case will be closed. If not, YouTube will review the complaint.

According to the documentation, "removal" refers to fully deleting the content and removing the individual's name and personal information from the title, description, and tags, if applicable. Another option is to blur out faces. It's also noted that making the video private is not allowed, as this would enable the poster to easily make it public again.

YouTube hinted earlier this year that it was working towards an updated privacy process for people to request the removal of AI-generated or other synthetic or altered content that simulates an identifiable individual, including their face or voice.

Meanwhile, YouTube is reportedly testing a new feature expected to be called "Hype." The new feature aims to increase visibility for small creators on the platform. This experimental feature is currently available in select countries and will provide viewers with a way to promote their favourite videos.
