OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, has signed an agreement with Reddit to train its artificial intelligence (AI) models using posts from the popular community discussion platform. As part of this collaboration, OpenAI will integrate Reddit content into ChatGPT and new products. To accomplish this, OpenAI will utilise Reddit's Data API, which offers real-time, structured, and distinctive content from Reddit.
“This will enable OpenAI’s AI tools to better understand and showcase Reddit content, especially on recent topics,” Reddit said in a statement.
The agreement will also allow Reddit to introduce new AI-powered features to benefit both users and moderators. Brad Lightcap, the COO of OpenAI, expressed excitement about the partnership with Reddit to enhance ChatGPT with timely and relevant information, and to explore ways to enhance the Reddit experience with AI-powered features.
The partnership is consistent with other content arrangements and does not change Reddit's Data API Terms or Developer Terms.
“Reddit has become one of the internet’s largest open archives of authentic, relevant, and always up-to-date human conversations about anything and everything,” said Steve Huffman, Reddit Co-Founder and CEO.
“Including it in ChatGPT upholds our belief in a connected internet, helps people find more of what they’re looking for, and helps new audiences find community on Reddit,” he added.
Meanwhile, OpenAI gained attention with the launch of ChatGPT in 2022, and now they have introduced a new multimodal AI tool called GPT-4o. This chatbot allows users to interact with their devices, tablets, or PCs in a more human-like manner. GPT-4o is capable of conducting conversations through text, audio, and video in real time.
OpenAI's CTO, Mira Muratti, released a demo video of GPT-4o to showcase its functionality. CEO Sam Altman mentioned it on his social media, noting that the features of GPT-4o are too extensive for tweets, so he posted a blog about it. In essence, GPT-4o is a powerful tool for internet users, enabling real-time question-asking. Unlike ChatGPT, this advanced multimodal AI tool allows users to ask questions through both text and video, and it can provide quick real-time answers.
