WhatsApp is a popular instant messaging app and it has billions of users around the world. Meta releases new features now and then to enhance user experience and improve the functioning of the app. Now, the company is working on a new feature to improve users’ privacy. This new feature is focused on the profile photos of the users.
As per a report by WEBetaInfo, WhatsApp is now testing a new update through the TestFlight beta Program. The update is rolling out with the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.10.10.70. The under-testing feature will block screenshots of profile photos, and it will be available in a future update.
The feature is already available on Android with WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.4.25 update. It aims to enhance user privacy and reduce the risks associated with unauthorised sharing and distribution of personal images. This feature disables the ability for users to take screenshots of profile photos. However, this feature is not yet available for iOS users. Nonetheless, the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.10.10.70 update from the TestFlight app suggests that WhatsApp is currently working on introducing this feature for iOS users as well.
According to a screenshot shared by WEBetaInfo, WhatsApp will introduce a new feature that will prevent users from taking screenshots of profile photos. This feature aims to protect the privacy of WhatsApp users by blocking the unauthorised sharing of profile photos without the owner's consent. The app will display a message notifying users about this change. However, it's important to note that people can still capture profile photos using other devices or cameras. Nevertheless, this new feature is expected to significantly reduce the risk of unauthorised sharing of profile photos.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp is currently testing some new features that aim to provide a better user experience. The first feature currently under testing makes it easier for users to zoom in while using the in-app camera on WhatsApp. The second feature allows users to create new stickers from their gallery or use Meta AI to generate stickers through new shortcuts. These features are currently available to beta testers on iOS and are expected to roll out to all users on both Android and iOS smartphones soon.
