WhatsApp is testing a new chat filter for its users. The under testing feature is currently available to testers enrolled in the Google Play Beta program. It lets users add and filter their favourite chats for easier access. In addition to this, the instant messaging platform is also unread messages and group filters.
Favourite chat filter was spotted by WABetaInfo on WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.12.7. The new feature allows users to organise their favourite chats using a new filter. It is designed to help those who receive numerous messages from various people and have difficulty finding their regular contacts. Although the chat pinning feature already exists, the platform only permits a maximum of three pinned chats.
As per the screenshot shared by WEBataInfo, four new filters can be seen at the top of the screen (underneath the WhatsApp logo). The "All," "Unread," and "Groups" filters were reportedly added earlier. Now, a fourth "Favourites" filter can also be seen.
The feature description says, "Make it easy to find the people and groups that matter most across WhatsApp." At the bottom, there is an "Add to Favorites" option that allows users to manually add contacts to this list. WABetaInfo also claims that users can remove and reorder chats according to their preferences. Since the feature is rolling out in beta, not all beta testers may see it immediately, but it is likely to appear over the next few days.
Meanwhile, AI is rapidly advancing in the tech industry. WhatsApp is also jumping into the AI race by working on introducing new AI features on its platform. According to reports, WhatsApp is developing another AI feature for its beta version, which will soon be rolled out to all users. This upcoming feature will allow users to create AI-generated images of their choice. The feature, known as 'Imagine', is being tested and will be based on Meta's large language model, giving users the freedom to generate images from text.
