WhatsApp introduces ‘One-minute long voice note’ for status: How to use it?

WhatsApp, Meta’s popular instant messaging app has rolled out a new feature which enables the users to share one-minute voice notes as status updates- which is almost double the previous limit of 30 seconds. This new update will enhance the user experience by enabling longer audio messages to be shared in statuses without the need to break them up.

New Voice Note Feature- What’s special?

The longer voice note on WhatsApp status will enable the users to share updates in the form of voice notes, which are similar to photos, text and videos. By extending the limit from just 30 seconds to one minute, the instant messaging platform has been focusing on providing a more convenient way for users to share longer messages in a single status update. This feature is useful for those who want to share longer detailed updates or stories without interruption.

Availability

As per the report filed by WABetaInfo, the new long-format voice note status feature is currently rolling out to all WhatsApp users, using Android and iOS platforms. To use this feature, users might need to update their WhatsApp to the latest version (check the App Store/Play Store).

How to post long-format voice notes on WhatsApp? Step-by-step guide

  1. Update WhatsApp: Make sure that your WhatsApp app is updated to the latest version.
  2. Open WhatsApp: Now open the app on your handset.
  3. Go to the Updates tab where you can check your status updates.
  4. Tap on the Pencil Icon to start a new status update.
  5. Tap on the Microphone, which is at the bottom right of the screen, and tap on the microphone icon.
  6. Now start recording by holding the microphone button, and start recording your voice note. 
  7. Release the button once you are done.

Additional features and updates: Lock chats on linked devices

In the related news, WhatsApp will also test a new feature in its beta version for Android which will enable the users to lock chats on the linked devices. 

This chat lock feature has been available on smartphones since 2023, and it may soon extend to linked devices as well. 

WABetaInfo spotted this feature in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android (version 2.24.11.9), indicating that users will soon be able to secure their chats on all connected devices.
