WhatsApp introduces AI Imagine feature for photo generation: Details

AI is taking over the tech ecosystem, and to join the race, WhatsApp is working on introducing new AI features which will be added soon on the platform. As per the reports, another AI feature is under the developement (for beta version), and is will soon be introduced on the instant messaging platfrom for the mass users. With the upcoming feature, the users will be able to generate AI images of their choice. 

WhatsApp has been testing this feature under the name of ‘Imagine’, which will be based on the large language model of Meta. It will give freedom to the users for generating images from text.

As per the report filed by WABetaInfo, the new WhatsApp feature was seen in Android version 2.24.12.4 and with this feature, users will be able to generate photos by using AI within the app. The screenshot was shared by the platform which showcased a new option named ‘Imagine’, for AI-generated photos.

This new AI Imagine feature has been added to the attachment option, available on the platform where the Beta users (who already received this new feature) will be able to create new AI-generated images by simply tapping on the Imagine in the attachment option. 

Image-generated capabilities

Meta AI already has image-generated capabilities, enabling users to create AI images with the help of text prompts.

This feature could be accessed by tagging @Meta AI in the group chat. It will further added to the attachment section in WhatsApp under the name ‘Imagine’.

Meta started to add its AI assistant Meta AI to WhatsApp in 2023 and it was added to some selected regions last year.

When will the new AI Image feature come to India?

As per the WABetaInfo’s report, the new AI Imagine feature will only arrive to the WhatsApp users, who already have MetaAI. At present, the chatbot is currently present in America, Canada, Australia, South Africa and some other regions.
