WhatsApp is gearing up to roll out a new feature for its platform. The under testing feature is targeted at WhatsApp Channels and will enable users to pin channels for easy access. Currently, WhatsApp does not allow users to pin their favourite channels at the top of the window.
According to a report by feature tracker WABetaInfo, the Meta-owned instant messaging service is introducing the ability to pin up to two channels with WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.13.3. When the functionality is enabled, users can press and hold on up to two channels in the list, then tap the pin icon from the top bar, as shown in the screenshot leaked by WABetaInfo.
The feature tracker suggests that this feature may enhance the user experience by ensuring that frequently visited channels remain easily accessible. Similar to pinned conversations, these channels can be opened without needing to scroll through the entire list.
The feature to pin multiple WhatsApp channels is currently available to beta testers who have installed WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.13.3 through the Google Play Store beta program. The update is also expected to allow users to select multiple WhatsApp channels for bulk actions, like pinning, marking the status as read, or muting them. This update could be helpful for those who have subscribed to multiple channels, making it easier to manage them.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp is testing a new layout for its messaging platform, which brings changes to the status update page. The updated layout will allow users to preview status updates without having to open them. This new feature is expected to be available to iOS and Android users in the future.
According to WABetaInfo, the new layout for status updates is being rolled out with the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.12.20. While some beta testers had early access to this change, it has now been made available to more users with the latest update.
