If you own a Samsung smartphone, there's important news for you. Samsung has made a significant change to its software and security update policy. The company has decided to discontinue security updates for three of its smartphones. This has come after the company has discontinued the support for all smartwatches running the Tizen operating system.
Samsung Galaxy A51 5G, Galaxy A41, and Galaxy M01 smartphones were released more than 4 years ago. As per Samsung's policy, security update support is typically provided for up to 4 years. This means that these three models will no longer receive security updates or new features.
Despite being launched in 2020, the Galaxy A51 5G received the most updates, including an update to Android 13, while the Galaxy A41 and Galaxy M01 were running on Android 12 until the recent decision to discontinue support.
The Sammobile states that although the devices will no longer receive updates, Samsung might issue a security patch if any critical vulnerabilities are found in their firmware.
Meanwhile, on July 10, 2024, Samsung is planning to host a major event called the Galaxy Unpacked in Paris. The event was first reported by The Chosun Daily, a South Korean publication. This aligns with the upcoming 2024 Olympics. Last year's Unpacked event was hosted in Samsung's home market, South Korea.
At the upcoming event, Samsung is expected to reveal its next-generation foldable smartphones: the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Both of these upcoming foldable devices are rumoured to feature thinner designs, enhanced portability, and improved user experience. Samsung aims to maintain its competitive edge in the foldable market, as it faces increasing competition from brands such as Vivo, Honor, OnePlus, and Oppo.
