Realme is working on a new fast-charging technology that can charge a smartphone from zero to 100 in a few minutes. The company already offers 240W fast charging support with its Realme GT Neo 5. The smartphone was launched in February last year. Now, the smartphone manufacturer is working on 300W charging support for its upcoming smartphones. The company’s major rival Xiaomi already demonstrated its 300W fast charging technology last year.
During an interview with the YouTube channel The Tech Chap, Francis Wong, CEO of Realme Europe and Global Marketing Director, confirmed that Realme is currently testing 300W charging technology. This move aims to help the brand compete with Xiaomi, which is also developing similar fast-charging technology.
Redmi had already showcased 300W charging in February last year using a modified Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition smartphone with a 4,100mAh battery. With this charging technology, the battery could be fully charged in less than five minutes. However, the company is yet to release a phone with support for 300W fast charging.
Realme offers 240W charging in the Realme GT Neo 5. The phone claims to charge the 4,600mAh battery from zero to 20 percent in 80 seconds, from zero to 50 percent in four minutes, and from zero to 100 percent in less than 10 minutes. It also touts that a 30-second charge can deliver up to two hours of talk time.
The initial price tag of the Realme GT Neo 5 is CNY 3,199 (roughly Rs. 39,000). It features a 6.74-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 144Hz and is powered by a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. Additionally, it comes with a triple rear camera setup, with a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 16-megapixel selfie shooter, and up to 1TB storage.
