OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has denied a recent report by Reuters that claimed OpenAI would be launching a search product, just a day before Google I/O, Google's flagship conference. Altman clarified that while OpenAI does have an announcement scheduled for Monday morning, it is not related to GPT-5 or a search engine.
However, he did mention that the announcement would be something magical. The official OpenAI post only mentioned that the launch will include updates on ChatGPT and the latest model, GPT-4.
In an X post, Altman said that OpenAI will stick to its AI goals, making its AI chatbot called ChatGPT more powerful.
“Not GPT-5, not a search engine, but we’ve been hard at work on some new stuff we think people will love! feels like magic to me,” he commented.

OpenAI is set to host a livestream event on Monday to showcase some updates on ChatGPT and its latest model, GPT-4. Earlier reports had suggested that the company was planning to launch a search product ahead of Google's I/O conference next week. However, OpenAI has now clarified that it will focus solely on updates related to ChatGPT and GPT-4 during the event.
OpenAI has already made changes to its AI chatbot to make it more direct and less verbose. Additionally, the new GPT-4 Turbo model is now available to paid ChatGPT users. The model has been trained on publicly available data up to December of last year.
According to OpenAI, using ChatGPT will result in more direct and conversational language in responses, with fewer overly verbose replies.
Meanwhile, OpenAI is reportedly developing a search feature for its ChatGPT chatbot. This new feature will allow users to ask the chatbot questions, and it will search the web to find the answers. The chatbot will provide results with citations to their sources, making it a great alternative to Google Search. The feature will search various sources like Wikipedia and blog posts and link to their original pages when users ask it questions.
