Artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot ChatGPT experienced an outage on Tuesday, with users worldwide, including in India, unable to access the service or generate responses. Its developer, OpenAI, stated that it was working on a fix.

‘We are continuing to work on a fix for this issue. We have identified the issue and mitigating,” said the Sam Altman-run company.

ChatGPT boasts over 100 million weekly users. Numerous ChatGPT users raised concerns on a certain social media platform.

“ChatGPT is not responding, neither on the computer nor on the phone,” posted one user of the AI service.

Another commented that ChatGPT is down and “I’m not doing any actual thinking".

“I refuse. I will just sit here until it becomes available again,” the user said.

Meanwhile, the ChatGPT maker has established a safety and security committee led by CEO Altman, Chair Bret Taylor, Adam D’Angelo, and Nicole Seligman. Their first task is to assess and enhance OpenAI’s processes and safeguards.

In other news, OpenAI is working on a new feature for its ChatGPT chatbot. The upcoming search feature in the chatbot will allow users to search the web for answers to their questions and display results with citations to their sources. This feature could position the chatbot as a viable alternative to Google Search. It will search various sources such as Wikipedia or blog posts and provide links to the original pages when users pose questions.

According to Bloomberg, ChatGPT’s experimental search function can also show relevant images alongside written responses. For example, if the chatbot finds diagrams or illustrated instructions useful in answering a question such as "how to clean a split-type AC" or "how to change a doorknob," it can include them in its responses. Currently, ChatGPT can perform searches for paying customers, but there may be potential for inaccurate responses or incorrect citations.
