Microsoft has recently unveiled the latest Surface Pro, part of the new wave of Copilot Plus PCs. Officially the 11th edition, the new Surface Pro starts at USD 999 will be available in four colour variants and will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon X processors. The base model will feature a 13-inch LCD screen, with an upgraded option to an OLED display in higher-end models.

Key features and specifications

As per The Verge report, the Snapdragon X processor is the main highlight of the device, as it enables many of the AI features which will be showcased by Microsoft, and further promises up to 14 hours of battery life.

Despite these upgrades, the Surface Pro comes in a familiar design with a tablet and integrated kickstand, which Microsoft continues to refine rather than reinvent.

Enhanced Flex keyboard

One of the notable improvements is the new Flex Keyboard attachment is that it provides much more stability than the previous models which were launched by the company.

This keyboard can be used independently of the Surface Pro, which automatically switches to a Bluetooth connection when undocked. It further includes a small battery which enables the functionality and new haptic feedback on the trackpad. Although the haptic feedback is less prominent than on the Surface Laptop Studio 2, that remains a welcome feature.

Improved trackpad design

The trackpad design on the Flex Keyboard has further witnessed several upgrades and improvements. It has been positioned closer to the bottom row of keys and is wider than before, claiming to make it more comfortable for use. These enhancements further contribute to a better overall typing and navigation experience.

OLED display option

There will be a significant upgrade which will be witnessed in the new Surface Pro, and the most obvious of all is the display size, as it comes with a 13-inch OLED display, which is available on the top-tier Snapdragon X Elite models, exclusively. This display will have an option that offers super crisp visuals, with some extra cost.

While Microsoft is yet to disclose the specifics of the new OLED panel which is being used in the new Surface Pro, it has been confirmed that they will not be the tandem one from LG Display. The display further boasts solid viewing angles but will lack an anti-reflective coating, making it susceptible to reflections under bright light. However, it handles natural light well indoors.

Connectivity and build

The new Surface Pro will retain its predecessor’s design and will further include two USB-C ports and Wi-Fi 7. Weighing less than a kg, it is not significantly thinner or lighter than the previous models, but Microsoft has promised substantial battery life improvements, aiming for greater efficiency.

Performance and user experience

Overall, the new Surface Pro feels as responsive as any other Windows laptop. The presence of the Qualcomm chip is not immediately apparent. If Microsoft’s claims about app compatibility, performance, and battery life, this Surface Pro could represent a significant advancement for Windows devices.
