Jio adds lakhs of new users in April: Here's how Airtel, Vi, BSNL performed

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has released the wireless subscribers user base data for the month of April. Here’s how major telecom companies of India have performed.

Jio and Airtel have once again increased their user base. According to the new data released by TRAI, Reliance Jio now has a total of 472.42 million, i.e., 47.2 crore, wireless subscribers. The number of active users of the company has also seen a huge increase. At the same time, the number of mobile subscribers of Vi (Vodafone Idea) and BSNL has once again decreased.

According to the new data released by TRAI, Jio has added 3.06 million, i.e., about 30 lakh, new active users to its user base in April 2024. The total active users of Jio have now increased to 433.42 million, i.e., 43.3 crores. At the same time, the total number of the country's largest telecom users has now reached 472.42 million, i.e., 47.2 crores. Bharti Airtel has also added 0.75 million, i.e., 7.5 lakh, new users in the month of April. However, the number of active users of the company has decreased by 2.09 million, i.e., 20.09 lakhs.

The total number of active users of Airtel has now reached 383.32 million, i.e., 38.3 crores. The overall subscriber base of the company has also increased to 386.52 million, i.e., 38.6 crores. The user base of the other two telecom companies Vi and BSNL has now decreased. In April, the number of active users of Vi has decreased by 0.63 million, i.e., 6.3 lakhs. In this way, the active users of the telecom company have now come down to 192.64 million, i.e., 19.26 crores. The total number of users of the company has also come down to 218.93 million, i.e., 21.89 million.

Meanwhile, a recent report has indicated that as 5G is being rolled out, its network quality is declining. The report revealed that as companies rapidly develop 5G networks, the download speed is also seeing a significant drop. According to Opensignal's report on the 5G network in India, the average download speed of 5G decreased from 304 Mbps in the first quarter of 2023 to 280.7 Mbps in the fourth quarter of the same year.
