Apple has reportedly doubled the iPhone production in India, showcasing the strength of local manufacturing and one out of seven iPhones in the world is now being manufactured in the country, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

PM Modi further said that India is now on the list of second-largest mobile phone manufacturers in the world.

In an interview with NDTV, PM Modi said: "One out of seven iPhones in the world is now being manufactured in India. We are also exporting a record number of the Apple product which is a stellar example of the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme’s success.”

Hence, it is sure that India will be manufacturing around 25 per cent of all iPhones by 2028.

The company has recorded a first-quarter shipment in India, witnessing a growth of 19 per cent (year-on-year).

The iPhone maker has been deepening its ecosystems by building a network of local vendors, thus lowering its dependence on China, while creating lakhs of jobs. The company clocked strong double-digit growth in India in the March quarter this year, and the country is likely to become the tech giant's third-largest market in the next two to three years.

Apple shipped approximately 10 million iPhones in India last year, accounting for 7 per cent of the market share. The country is home to more than 850 million mobile phone users and has the potential to reach over a billion smartphone users in the next couple of years.

It was further reported recently that Apple is planning to create a thinner iPhone (probably Phone 16), which will cater the users who prefer a more delicate, streamlined device. A report from The Information stated that the company head Tim Cook has been exploring several ways to design the slimmer-than-before iPhone, and some of the specific details are still yet to be undisclosed.

Another idea also surfaced which stated that Apple has been considering shifting the back lenses to the centre of the device, to achieve a sleeker silhouette.

Apple is also expected to launch the new iPhone 16 Pro Max by around September 2024 (timeline unspecified). A tipster stated that the design of the smartphone has been shared as he shared the dummy unit images of the purported smartphone alongside the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
