As the summer heat intensifies, incidents of fires and explosions in air conditioners (ACs) have begun to surface. A heatwave is sweeping through North India, making it difficult for people to endure the heat indoors without AC. With the rising temperatures, the number of AC-related fires and explosions has also increased. Many instances of AC fires have been reported in Delhi-NCR.

AC fires can occur due to various reasons such as poor maintenance, lack of cleaning, or electrical short circuits. However, warning signs of potential AC issues often manifest in advance. Unfortunately, many people tend to overlook these signs, leading to substantial losses. If you have an AC at home, it's crucial not to ignore the following five warning signs. Ignoring these signs could lead to a fire or explosion risk associated with your AC.

These are the five warning signs to watch for:

  1. Unusual sounds emanating from the AC could indicate a problem. If you notice any changes in the normal sounds of your AC, it's essential to have it inspected by a professional technician.
  2. Intermittent airflow while the AC is running may signify an issue. This could be caused by a faulty fan or other internal problems. If you experience inconsistent airflow from your AC, it's imperative to seek immediate inspection.
  3. Fluctuations in the cooling performance of your AC could point to the compressor or other internal component issues. Unstable cooling can stress the compressor and increase the risk of a fire.
  4. If the body of the AC becomes noticeably hotter than usual after continuous operation, it may indicate insufficient ventilation for the hot air being expelled. This increased body temperature can result from various issues that need prompt attention.
  5. Malfunctioning AC modes on the remote, such as the cool mode, dry mode, fan mode, or energy-saving mode, could indicate a malfunctioning sensor within the AC. If none of the modes are functioning properly, contacting a technician promptly is crucial.
