Google has quietly announced the launch of one of its most awaited smartphones in India. The newly launched Google Pixel 8a succeeds, which was launched last year in the country. The launch came a week before Google’s annual developer conference, which is scheduled to take place on May 14, 2024. Some highlights of the smartphone include a refreshed design, the Tensor G3 SoC, and AI features previously reserved for Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones.
Google Pixel 8a India price and availability
The Google Pixel 8a is available in four colours: Aloe, Bay, Obsidian, and Porcelain. The device is offered with 8GB of RAM and two different storage options: 128GB and 256GB. The 8GB + 128GB variant is priced at Rs 52,999 and the 8GB + 256GB variant is available for Rs 59,999.
The Pixel 8a phone is now available for pre-order on Flipkart. The sales will start at 6:30 AM on May 14. Google is also offering bank offers of Rs. 4,000 and 12-month no-cost EMI on select bank cards. In addition to this, those who pre-order the Pixel 8a can purchase the Pixel Buds A-series at just Rs 999.
Google Pixel 8a specifications
The Google Pixel 8a is powered by Tensor G3 along with the Titan M2 security coprocessor coupled with 8GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The Pixel 8a runs on Android 14 with the usual Pixel user experience and is promised to get seven years of software and security updates, which also includes its quarterly Pixel Feature Drops that add new software features.
It features a flat 6.1-inch Super Actua display with an OLED panel that refreshes at 120Hz. The display is protected by Corning's Gorilla Glass 3. On the camera front, the Pixel 8a has a 64-megapixel primary camera, a 13-megapixel ultrawide camera at the back, and a 13-megapixel front-facing camera.
The phone has a 4,492mAh battery and supports 18W wired fast charging and wireless charging at 7.5W (Qi charging standard). It has a refreshed design made out of glass for the screen, polycarbonate for the rear panels, and aluminum for the frame. Its design is similar to the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones, and it maintains its IP67 certification from the Pixel 7a.
The phone offers communication standards such as Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, a USB Type-C port, and support for the usual GPS navigation systems. The phone only offers space for one physical SIM card along with one virtual eSIM. The handset can be secured using its in-display fingerprint reader or face unlock.
