Apple is pulling up to launch the new iPhone 15 series in September (just like the usual schedule timeline). Although, it is said that the upcoming Apple device will bring several advanced features, there are some disappointments as the rumours state that the new iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will miss certain pivotal features from the upcoming iOS 18.
iOS 18 and the unveiling of Apple Intelligence
At the recent Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Apple announced that the iOS 18 will come packed with numerous innovations. One of the standout features introduced was Apple Intelligence, a new artificial intelligence system which has been designed to enhance the iPhone's capabilities with advanced AI-driven functionalities.
However, as per the recent reports, Apple is yet to disclose that the iPhone models will fully support Apple Intelligence.
Why iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will not support the Apple Intelligence feature?
As per the new report, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus- which will launch around Septemeber might not support the Apple Intelligence feature. It indeed comes as a surprise since these models are part of Apple's latest lineup.
The renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has further shed some light on the hardware of these devices.
Apple iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus: Expected features
Both the upcoming iPhones will come equipped with the A16 Bionic chip and around 6GB of RAM. Also, the Pro models of the iPhone 15 series will further come with the newer A17 Pro Bionic chip (speculated).
The A17 Pro chip will include advanced capabilities and a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) which are necessary for handling complex AI tasks and will further support the next-gen Siri features.
Apple Intelligence system: Explained
Ming-Chi Kuo will explain that the Apple Intelligence system will rely on an A17 Pro chip, and 8GB of RAM, which will provide the computational power and memory that is required to run the AI applications on the device.
Unfortunately, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus do not meet these requirements, as mentioned.
Advanced on-device processing
Apple’s new AI system, which has been built on the Large Language Model (LLM) which was used in ChatGPT, requires significant on-device memory, which will be up to 1.5GB.
This capability is said to be beyond the reach of hardware in the standard models of iPhone 15, resulting in these devices being unsupportive for the full suite of Apple Intelligence features. What’s next for iPhone users?
For those who are keen to experience the Apple Intelligence feature, the iPhone 15 Pro model will be the best option. These devices are said to be equipped to handle the new AI features on the smartphone with the support of advanced hardware.
Furthermore, it has been speculated that the forthcoming iPhone 16 series (2025), will include these new capabilities across all models, and not just the Pro variants.
