Google recently held its I/O 2024 developers conference where it announced many new features coming to various Google Products. On the second day of the event, Google released Android 15 Beta 2 and showcased several features that are coming to Android soon. One such feature is ‘Private Space’ on Android which allows users to keep a portion of their operating system for sensitive information.

The private space on Android is similar to Incognito mode and enables users to keep certain apps in it.

How to access Private Space

This space can be accessed from the launcher and can be locked as a second layer of authentication. Apps kept in this private space will be hidden from notifications, settings, and recents. However, users can access them through share sheet and photo picker as long as this space is kept unlocked.

The feature was announced during a preview of Android 15 Beta 2, which is specifically targeted at developers. Google is motivating developers to experiment with this feature, however, it has cautioned them about an issue with the feature in Beta 2 that affects home screen apps. The company has promised to address the bug in the coming days and the feature is expected to arrive with the release of Android 15, which will roll out in the next few months.

Meanwhile, Google is preparing to launch a new system to protect Android users from malware. The company is developing a live threat detection service that will utilize Google Play Protect's on-device AI to analyze apps for suspicious behavior. According to the company, the service will scrutinize various signals related to how apps use sensitive permissions and interact with other apps and services. The announcement of the live threat detection service came after the Google I/O developer event on Tuesday.

If Google Play Protect detects suspicious behavior from any app, it will send the app to Google for additional review. Additionally, it will alert users who have the app installed and may even disable the app if necessary.
