If you have a mobile phone and use an Airtel SIM, this news is important for you. Airtel users may face a significant price increase in their recharge plans soon. The company's Chief Executive Officer, Gopal Vittal, has hinted at potential price hikes.

Gopal Vittal recently stated that there will be a need for a substantial increase in mobile charges in the near future. He mentioned that the current average revenue per user (ARPU) of the company is around Rs 200, but the true rate should be around Rs 300. Even at Rs 300, it would still be the lowest ARPU in the world.

Airtel's ARPU for the fourth quarter of the financial year 2024 was recorded at Rs 209, while it was Rs 193 in the fourth quarter of 2023. Vittal emphasised the need for a major overhaul of tariffs in the entire industry.

He indicated that although there has been an increase in ARPU in the last two quarters, further increases are necessary. This suggests that Airtel plans may become more expensive in the future.

Following the fourth quarter results of the telecom sector, the CEO of the company congratulated Vodafone Idea for raising investment. He emphasised the importance of having three telecom companies in the country to ensure better services. The Airtel CEO also mentioned that the company has ceased investing in 4G and is now fully focused on 5G.

Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel and Google Cloud have announced a long-term partnership on May 13 to accelerate cloud adoption and deploy generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) solutions in India. This collaboration will offer Airtel customers a range of advanced cloud solutions from Google Cloud to speed up cloud adoption and modernization. The two companies will work together to develop cutting-edge AI/ML solutions, which Airtel will train using its extensive dataset.
