The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has initiated the IndiaAI Mission with a budget of Rs 10,372 crore. It has commenced the process of accepting nominations from leading institutes like IITs, NITs, etc., for students who are working on artificial intelligence (AI) projects, as per reports.

Which institutes are eligible

Engineering students enrolled in B.Tech or M.Tech programs at colleges ranked among the top 50 in the National Institutional Ranking Framework are eligible for AI fellowships.

Fellowship amount

As per the reports, B.Tech students will receive Rs 1 lakh in three installments, while M. Tech students will be provided with Rs 2 lakh in four installments of Rs 50,000 each.

In a letter addressed to 50 engineering institutes, IndiaAI Mission CEO Abhishek Singh has asked each institute to nominate 10 students from each category who are working on AI projects.

"This fellowship support will supplement existing fellowships and cover the duration of their project: one year for B.Tech students, and two years for M.Tech students," said the letter.

"This support is instrumental in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, thereby ensuring a workforce proficient in the essential skills needed to progress in the field of AI," it added.

Who is eligible?

In order to qualify for fellowships, B.Tech students must have achieved at least 80 percent overall in their last semester, or an equivalent grade. Nominated M.Tech students should be enrolled in postgraduate AI-related courses and conducting a thesis on AI or related subjects, as per the ministry's guidelines.
