WeChat, the Chineses messaging and payment platform is adding an in-app mini-gaming platform for its users to play basic games like Tetris. The app is open to developers worldwide. The company has listed two developers outside China for now and Google has one of them with its doodling game called "Guess My Sketch".
According to the Verge report, WeChat has said that its mini-games platform has grown over 400 million monthly active users but still is less than half of how many monthly active users are on the app that comprises of 1.082 billion mostly from China.
With the inclusion of the gaming platform, WeChat promises new developers to join in from around the world for profit shares.
The report said, "There is a programme that developers can apply to, called 'Creativity Incentives' which parent company Tencent launched in December to encourage developers to experiment creatively with art, music, and storytelling".
"The programme grants deserving developers an additional 20 per cent cut in revenue."
WeChat's decision of introducing an in-app gaming tab comes after other social networking giants like Snapchat, Facebook and YouTube incorporated dedicated gaming related spaces as part of the main app.
The report added, WeChat's attempt to expand went flat after it went international in 2012 and the new announcement could help the app better establish itself in the market outside China.
