Thuraya X5-Touch: The World's First Satellite smartphone based on Android

Thuraya, the Telecommunications Company has unveiled the world's first satellite smartphone called the Thuraya X5-Touch. The device comes with all the goodness of Android OS backed with always connected satellite network connection.

Thuraya X5-Touch specifications

The Thuraya X5-Touch comes with a 5.2-inch IPS LCD screen that has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 with 16:9 aspect ratio and is made of glare resistant Gorilla glass that also works even when it is wet or while wearing gloves. The device comes with thick bezels and weighs 262 grams. It comes with IP67 water and dust resistance along with MIL-STD-810 certification, which means that the device is capable of handling extream weather conditions with ease.

Powering it is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 is the chipset backed with 2GB RAM and 16GB expandable storage. It runs on  Android 7.1 Nougat and for clicking pictures comes with an 8 Megapixel rear camera along with a 2 Megapixel selfie camera.

It houses a 3800 mAh battery and comes with a dual SIM solution wherein the first slot has 2G/3G/4G network capability, while the second slot is reserved for the satellite network. The Thuraya X5-Touch come with GPS, BeiDou and GLONASS navigation support with Bluetooth, NFC and Wi-Fi connectivity.
