Expanding its "Android One" line-up of smartphones, Chinese handset maker Xiaomi on Wednesday launched Mi A2 with improved photography capabilities in India for Rs 16,999.
"Android One" is a line of consumer electronics devices that run the Android Operating System (OS).
It is a standard created by Google for Android systems, mainly targeted at people buying their first smartphone.
Under the Android One partnership with the search engine giant, the smartphone will have unlimited high-quality photo storage with Google Photos.
"We are strengthening our Make In India commitment. All units (of Mi A2) sold in India will be manufactured here," Manu Jain, Vice President, Xiaomi and Managing Director, Xiaomi India, told reporters here.
The device will be available in black, gold, lake blue and rose gold colours on Mi.com and Amazon.in on pre-order starting August 9.
It will be available on a weekly sale starting August 16 on Mi.com, Amazon.in and Mi Home stores.
Mi A2 sports a 12MP + 20MP rear Artificial Intelligence (AI) dual camera and a 20MP front camera and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor with Qualcomm's Artificial Intelligence Engine (AIE).
"The device will soon be announced in a 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant soon," Jain informed.
The smartphone comes with 5.99-inch 18:9 Full Screen Display, protected by a layer of 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 5, in an aluminum unibody with a curved back panel that is tapered towards the four sides.
The device also has advanced Kryo 260 CPU cores, coupled with up to 6GB RAM, which makes it a blend of performance and power-efficiency, the company claimed.
The smartphone runs Android 8.1 Oreo OS with Google's AI-powered software innovations built-in, such as a smarter battery that adjusts to user habits.
In terms of security, users will get monthly security software updates.
