LG first 5G smartphone with Snapdragon 855 to unveil at MWC

LG, the South Korean multinational conglomerate corporation on Thursday made its plans for Mobile World Congress (MWC) known. The company plans on unveiling a new smartphone based on 5G network with longer battery life and better cooling mechanism.

LG will be hosting a media event in Barcelona on 24th February. The event is expected to generate a lot of buzz from attendees at MWC, the world's biggest mobile event that will start from February 25 to 28.

Reports suggest that the announcement had come a day after LG said it will show off its latest flagship smartphone, the G8 ThinQ with a new interface in MWC, but the company did not specify whether it will introduce the 5G smartphone as part of G8 ThinQ's line-up or would it be another brand.

The new flagship model is expected to be released in March.

"We will showcase the 5G smartphone to attendees of the MWC," LG Electronics said in a statement. "In light of the global mobile event, we will beef up efforts to target the global premium market."

The company said that its new 5G-enabled phone will be powered by Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 855 chipset that will help in supporting simultaneously high-resolution games and data-heavy applications without latency.

LG will also be using the vapour chamber technology that will help in dispersing heat from the device that will be backed with 4,000 mAh batteries for a longer operation time.

Other reports suggest LG is expected to showcase a dual connected display screen at the MWC where its unbeatable local rival Samsung, is expected to unveil its first foldable phone soon, with Huawei taking a similar step.

LG has been striving to reverse its fortune in the smartphone market as its mobile division has been posting losses since the second quarter of 2017, because of maturing demand and fierce global competition.

LG has been struggling in the smartphone market as the company has been sandwiched between Samsung and Apple in the high-end market and Chinese manufacturers that have a strong sold in the low-end segment.
