Google recently updated its Gboard keyboard that will come with AI-powered offline dictation on its Pixel phones, which will also allow the user to speak out the email and text message without having the internet connection.
Johan Schalkwyk, Speech Team, Google wrote on a blog post on Tuesdays, "We're happy to announce the rollout of an end-to-end, all-neural, on-device speech recognizer to power speech input in Gboard which is always available, even when you are offline".
Schalkwyk further added, "As you speak, it outputs words character-by-character, just as if someone was typing out what you say in real-time. It is exactly as you'd expect from a keyboard dictation system".
Google has designed it to feature at the character level and to increase use-parameters of the speech recognition feature, the company said that it has hosted the new model on its device that will help in avoiding latency and inherent unreliability that comes via communication networks.
As if now the Gboard speech recogniser is only available in American English on all Pixel devices.
The company is hopeful about adopting this in more languages across the broader app domains.
