Facebook Messenger Lite update adds animated GIFs and more customizations to the app

Facebook's new update for the  Messenger Lite offers more features on the app like animated GIFs and customization features.

"While you could receive GIFs in Messenger Lite for some time, they were not animated. Starting now, people can express themselves more in chats with family and friends by sending and playing animated GIFs.

"To send a GIF, use a third party keyboard (such as the Google keyboard), search for GIFs in their library, and send a more expressive message," Krish Gali, Product Manager, Facebook, wrote in a blog post late Wednesday.

To make the chat more personal, users can now customize their conversations with different individuals and groups and also make various colour choices as well as emojis.

With the size still remaining 10MB, the new update on the Facebook Messenger app brings up feature-rich service. The lightweight messaging app is available in over 100 countries and got video chat capabilities earlier this year.

Messenger Lite earlier had Messenger's core experiences such as messaging, sending and receiving photos and links and receiving stickers.

It uses the same bolt logo as Messenger but with colours reversed. The bolt is blue with a white chat bubble background.
