Tamil Nadu Lok Sabha Election Results 2024 HIGHLIGHTS: Tamil Nadu, the southern state, went to Lok Sabha Election 2024 in the first phase of the seven-phased polls on April 19. All 39 seats in the state cast their vote simultaneously. A fierce battle was fought by the NDA and the I.N.D.I.A bloc in the run-up to the polls, in which several top leaders of the country and the state hit the ground running. Prime Minister Narendra Modi held several election rallies in the state where the BJP is eyeing to make inroads. As part of its mission south, the BJP stitched alliances with the various regional parties. However, as per the ECI trends, the NDA has lagged behind and the INDIA bloc has swept the state. The BJP is contesting on 23 seats, while the allies are fighting on the rest of the seats. Some of the regional parties are contesting on the BJP symbol. The BJP has left 10 Lok Sabha seats for the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) of Anbumani Ramadoss, 3 for the GK Vasan-led Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar), 2 for the Amma Makkal Munnettra Kazhagam (AMMK) of TTV Dhinakaran in Tamil Nadu. The DMK and Congress are part of the Opposition's I.N.D.I.A bloc, which also include CPI, CPIM, VCK, IUML, MDMK. AIADMK-led alliance include parties like DMDK, PT and SDPI. Some key candidates whose fate is on the line are Kalanidhi Veeraswamy (DMK, Chennai North), G Selvam (DMK, Kancheepuram), K Annamalai (BJP, Coimbatore), AC Shanmugam (BJP, Vellore), K. Gopinath (Congress, Krishnagiri), R. Asokan (AIADMK, Dharmapuri), TM Selvaganapathi (DMK, Salem), KP Ramalingam (BJP, Namakkal), M Thilagabama (PMK, Dindigul), T. R. Paarivendhar (BJP, Perambalur), V. Selvaraj (CPI, Nagapattinam), Raama Sreenivasan (BJP, Madurai), R.
