Chennai: The ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday (October 25) alleged that AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami has not opposed the BJP and Governor RN Ravi, thus clarifying that his “opposition” to the former ally is a “ planned drama”. DMK's official Tamil organ 'Murasoli' referred to Palaniswami's response in a press conference, when he was asked on Governor Ravi's comment about the Aryan-Dravidian narrative and said that the AIADMK leader “struggled” to oppose the BJP and the Governor who functioned as the party’s “representative”.
Further, the daily asked: "...does it not make it clear that Palaniswami's stand of opposition to BJP is a planned drama."
Quoting DMK President and Chief Minister MK Stalin's remark that AIADMK's claim of severing ties with the BJP was a drama marked by cunningness, Murasoli reiterated the accusation and said Palaniswami's 'lie' had been exposed.
What did the Governor earlier claim?
On October 23, Governor Ravi had claimed that there was no such thing as Aryan and Dravidian races.
He had also said that claims of racial divide were hence a false narrative and had blamed concerted attempts to write a parallel history.
He had claimed that great freedom fighters like the Maruthu brothers and Muthuramalinga Thevar had been reduced to the stature of caste leaders due to a 'political conspiracy' to promote the British's false narrative of the Aryan-Dravidian racial divide.
The DMK newspaper hit out at Palaniswami, the Leader of the opposition, for not speaking on Dravidian ideology though he headed the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.
AIADMK-BJP split
All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) on September 25 formally announced its decision to exit the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu and at the Centre.
AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami earlier this month said that his party exited the BJP-led NDA alliance to respect party workers' feelings and clarified that there was no other reason behind the breakup.
"The happenings here wounded our party workers. A party worker has to work for a party's success and its welfare and our decision is in deference to party workers' feelings," the AIADMK general secretary said.
Palaniswami had denied that there was any sort of pressure from the saffron party over seat-sharing in next year's Lok Sabha elections.
