K Kanimozhi, re-elected from Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi Lok Sabha seat, has been appointed as the new parliamentary party leader for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), replacing T R Baalu. The announcement was made by Chief Minister M K Stalin on Monday, following the DMK-led alliance's victory in all 39 seats in Tamil Nadu and the lone seat in Puducherry.
New Roles in Parliament
- Kanimozhi: Now the DMK's parliamentary party leader, she has been the party's prominent face in Delhi and holds the position of DMK’s deputy general secretary.
- T R Baalu: Re-elected from Sriperumbudur, he will serve as the DMK’s floor leader in the Lok Sabha.
- Dayanidhi Maran: Representing Chennai Central, he will be the deputy leader in the Lok Sabha.
- A Raja: Re-elected from Nilgiris, he will continue as the chief whip.
Rajya Sabha assignments
- Tiruchi N Siva: Appointed as the DMK leader in the Rajya Sabha.
- M Shanmugam: DMK trade union LPF general secretary, will be the deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha.
- P Wilson: Senior advocate, designated as the party’s whip in the Rajya Sabha.
- S Jegathratchagan: Arakkonam MP, appointed as the DMK treasurer in both Houses.
The reorganisation aims to strengthen the DMK's parliamentary presence and ensure robust representation in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
