The Indian Navy's INS Khanjar successfully rescued 36 Indian fishermen who were stranded in the Bay of Bengal, 130 nautical miles off the coast of Tamil Nadu, on July 28. The fishermen had been in trouble for more than two days due to bad weather, a lack of fuel, food, and supplies, and an engine failure. The Indian Naval Ship Khanjar's prompt intervention ensured their safe return to the Chennai harbor, reported news agency ANI.

A government-owned research vessel was traveling between Goa and Karwar when it ran into technical difficulties, leaving its 36 passengers—28 crew members and 8 scientists—stranded. The Indian Coast Guard team acted quickly to bring the stranded individuals to safety and rescue them.

According to DIG Coast Guard KL Arun, the vessel signaled for help around 3 p.m. on July 26 after experiencing a complete power outage and losing propulsion. In light of the trouble call, the Coast Guard quickly dispatched their boats to the scene. By 5 p.m., the distressed vessel was reached by the first rescue ship, and the second ship arrived later that night.

The rescue mission received the utmost priority because of the significance of the vessel as a vital national asset for research purposes. Fortunately, all 36 passengers are safe and are being transported back to Goa for additional care and assistance.

The research vessel and its crew were successfully rescued thanks to the prompt and effective response of the Indian Coast Guard, which prevented any additional complications or risks.

During the Naval Force Day 2022 celebrations. The INS Khanjar, a Guided Missile Corvette, settled on a port call to Kolkata on November 27–20. On November 18–19, the ship graciously opened its doors to visitors at Kidderpore Docks, SMPT, as part of this significant occasion.
