Continuing his impressive run on the senior circuit, teen sensation Yuki Bhambri won his fifth ITF singles title after quelling a late challenge from local favourite Rupesh Roy in Kolkata on Saturday.
The fifth seed Delhi boy edged past Roy 6-3 7-6 (4) in the singles final, which lasted nearclose to two hour contest at the BTA Complex in Kolkata.
Yuki, however, could not complete a double as he and Young-Jun Kim of Korea lost their overnight unfinished doubles semi-final to second seed Divij Sharan and Vishnu Vardhan 3-6 0-6 in just 55 minutes.
Rohan Gajjar and Purav Raja lived up to their top billing bagging the doubles title. They beat second seeds Sharan and Vardhan 6-4 7-5 in 80 minutes later.
In the singles final, Yuki raced away with the first set in just 31 minutes as he broke Roy twice -- in the third and ninth games.
The second set saw an intense battle as Roy raised his game against his wily opponent.
There was no break of serve although both the players had chances. In the sixth game Roy recovered from 0-40 to hold his serve. The ninth game went into five deuces before Yuki managed to retain his service game.
In the tie-break, Yuki showed cool composure to clinch 7-4.
Yuki got Rs 97,812 as prize money for his singles win and 25 ranking points while Rupesh got Rs 67,716 and 14 points. PTI
