New Delhi: HCL Inter School Tennis Challenge, an initiative of HCL in association with the Mahesh Bhupathi Tennis Academies (MBTA) ended on Sunday on a high note.

This large-scale school-level tennis tournament, which is a first of its kind in India, was being held at the DLTA Tennis Courts, Safdarjung Enclave, New Delhi.

Over 70 leading schools from across Delhi NCR participated in this tournament.

The tournament was aimed at inspiring aspiring young tennis players from across Delhi NCR schools and helping them in developing their game. The tournament was divided into two categories - Team Championship (for U/15 boys and girls) and Individual Championship (for U/17 boys and girls).

In the grand finale, Pathways World School, Gurgaon and Mt. Carmel School battled it out for the U/15 Team Championship for girls with Pathways World School, Gurgaon emerging victorious by 2-1.

Delhi Public School, RK Puram defeated MM Public School Pitampura in the U/15 Boys Team Championship by 2-0.

In the Individual Championships, great tennis was on display as Smriti Singh from Pathways World School, Gurgaon beat Anu Verma from Sankriti school to claim the Girls Championship title by 9-6 while  Suyash Gupta from Mata Kasturi Devi Sr. Sec. Public School, Najafgarh put up a stellar performance to defeat Yugal Bansal from MM Public School, Pitampura   to claim the Boys Championship title by 2-6, 6-1, 10-8.

Executive Director and CEO of HCL Corporation, Roshni Nadar and ace Tennis player Mahesh Bhupathi were present on the occasion to distribute the awards.

"Seeing the talent on display at the maiden edition of HCL Inter-School Tennis Challenge is truly exciting for us. In partnership with HCL, we hope to identify and help nurture young talent who genuinely love Tennis across the length and breadth of India. Our country is now making its mark at the international level and we want to create many more sporting icons, who will make our country proud in the years to come," Bhupati said.
