Stuttgart, Germany, Jul 10: France completed a 4-1 victory over Germany in their Davis Cup quarterfinal by splitting Sunday's reverse singles. France was already assured of a place in the semifinals after winning Saturday's doubles to take an unassailable 3-0 lead.
Philipp Petzschner earned Germany's only point by beating Michael Llodra 6-3, 6-4, before Jo-Wilfried Tsonga beat Philipp Kohlschreiber 7-6 (3), 7-6 (5) in the final match.
Both reverse singles were reduced to best-of-three sets.France will play either Spain or the United States in the semifinals. France lost to Serbia in last year's final.
France improved to 7-2 against Germany and has not lost to its neighbor since 1938.
