Chennai: With some of the world's best players vying for the top honours, the doubles field of the upcoming ATP Chennai Open tennis tournament looks stronger than even the singles draw.

Three of the top-20 singles players along with some of the world's top doubles specialists will compete for honours in the ensuing 20th edition of the event starting here on January 5.

According to a press release by the organisers of the lone ATP event in South Asia, in addition to a thrilling line up of singles players, including four from the top 25 and three ATP World Tour Award winners, the doubles field would have three of the world's top 20 singles players.

Besides, some of the doubles specialists such as Stan Wawrinka, Roberto Bautista Agut, Feliciano Lopez, Max Mirnyi, Ivan Dogic, Mate Pavic, Andre Bagemann, Robin Haase, Johan Brunstrom, Nicholas Monroe, Oliver Marach and Michael Venus would also be seen in action.

Together with the Brisbane International and Qatar ExxonMobil Open, the Aircel Chennai Open is among the first tournaments of the ATP World Tour's 2015 season.

Other top players include Pablo Carreno Busta and Guillermo Garcia Lopez, Yen-Hsun Lu and Jonathan Marray, Frantisek Cermak and Jiri Vesely, and Gilles Muller and Igor Sijsling.

The organisers recently announced the granting of Doubles wildcards to India's top tennis players Mahesh Bhupathi, Saketh Myneni, Sriram Balaji and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan.

Including the previously announced two wildcards only 12 of the 16 doubles teams have been finalised so far. The last four entries will be finalised on January 3.
