Moscow, Oct 17: Sofia Arvidsson of Sweden advanced to the quarterfinals of the Kremlin Cup by beating Marion Bartoli of France 6-3, 6-0 on Wednesday.
Arvidsson broke Bartoli three times and dropped serve herself twice in the first set of the second-round match. The Frenchwoman collapsed in the second set, serving six double faults.
Arvidsson, who won her second career title in Memphis earlier this year, will face Alize Cornet of France in her sixth quarterfinal this season.
The result means the 10th-ranked Bartoli now can't overtake No. 9 Samantha Stosur and will remain the second alternate at the season-ending WTA Championships in Istanbul next week.
