Slovak Dominika Cibulkova advanced to the third round of Wimbledon, defeating American Jennifer Brady 6-4, 6-4 on Wednesday. One break in each set was all Cibulkova needed to defeat the 22-year-old Brady, who missed three break points in a match that lasted for one hour and 16 minutes.
The 28-year-old Cibulkova, the 2016 Wimbledon quarterfinalist, is now set to play against Croatian Ana Konjuh, seeded No. 27, who battled her way past Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu 7-6 (3), 2-6, 6-3.
Belarusian Victoria Azarenka also advanced to the third round, her first Grand Slam event after coming back from maternity leave, at the cost of Russian Elena Vesnina, the semifinalist last year, 6-3, 6-3.
Azarenka, former World No.1, fired 26 winners on her way to get over Vesnina, Indian Wells champion, in 99 minutes.
Azarenka is set to play against British Heather Watson, who defeated Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia 6-0, 6-4.
