Sydney, Oct 10: Sydney FC striker Mark Bridge is facing suspension for two A-League matches after receiving a red card for an altercation with Melbourne Victory defender Rodrigo Vargas on Saturday.
Football Federation Australia said Monday that its match review panel found Bridge “committed the offense of assault on a player—violent conduct when not challenging for the ball”—against Vargas at the 75-minute mark of the scoreless draw at Melbourne.
Bridge has the option of accepting the two-match ban or appealing it to a FFA disciplinary committee.
The match before 40,000 spectators marked the A-League debuts of former Leeds and Liverpool star Harry Kewell with the Victory and ex-Blackburn Rover Brett Emerton with Sydney FC. AP
